About This or That Games
This or That Games is a free game you play in your browser: two options, one pick, then see how your pick compares. It works on a phone, a laptop or a classroom projector, with no account to create and no app to install. It's made by Lora Studios, a small independent studio.
Why we made it
This or That is one of the easiest ways to get a room talking. Everyone can answer, there are no wrong answers, and the fun part is hearing why someone picked pancakes over waffles. Teachers use it as a brain break, teams use it to warm up a meeting, and families play it at dinner.
Most This or That questions online sit in long lists that someone has to read out loud. We wanted them on a screen instead, big enough for the whole room, with real results after every pick. So every list on this site is also a game you can start right away, and the Present button turns it into a full-screen version for a projector or smart board, with an optional timer and hand count.
How the questions are written
Every question here is original. A few rules keep them playable:
- Short. You should be able to read both options in a second or two, even from the back of a classroom.
- Balanced. A good question splits the room. If nearly everyone would pick the same side, it isn't much of a choice.
- Right for the room. Questions on our This or That for kids and Would You Rather for kids pages are kid-safe, and the work questions are kept work-safe. There is no adult or NSFW category anywhere on the site.
Each question set is also published in full as a numbered list on its page, grouped by theme, so you can read every question before you play it with a group.
How the results work
After you pick, you see how people voted on that question: the share for each side and how many votes each side got. Percentages are rounded so the two sides add up to 100.
A split based on a handful of votes doesn't tell you much, so until a question has at least 20 votes the cards show our predicted split instead, clearly labelled, together with how many real votes it has so far. The prediction is our editors' estimate of how a typical group answers that question. Once a question reaches 20 votes, the cards switch to the real results.
Your own vote shows up on your screen right away. Votes reach us in small batches, so it can take a little while before they appear for everyone else.
Hand counts you enter in Present mode are just for your room. They stay on that screen and are never added to the results.
Votes are anonymous
When you vote, the page sends us which question it was and which side you picked, plus a random code that helps us block floods of fake votes. That code is never saved in our database. The database keeps nothing but a running total for each question: no names, no IP addresses and no device codes.
You get one vote per question on each device. Your browser remembers which questions you've answered, so when you come back to one you see the results instead of voting again. Clearing your browser data resets that. The privacy policy has the full details.
Who makes it
This or That Games is made by Lora Studios, a small independent studio. We also make upheadsgame.com, a free party game that runs in the browser. Both follow the same idea: open a page and play, with no accounts, no app and no cost.
This or That Games is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to any other This or That or Would You Rather app, website or game.
